The SALC™ Tool: Part 2 of 5

As a Coach and Design Strategist, I specialize in working with bold entrepreneurs desiring to transform their businesses through NLP communication, productivity coaching, and thriving emotionally intelligent cultures.

 

My company, Blue Egg Leadership designed and utilizes the SALC™ tool to help small giants and awarenerpeurs alike design and develop adaptive competencies. The SALC™ stands for Strategic Agility, Affect, Leader Efficacy and Consciousness. The model is a great place for any business owner to consider and apply to their environment. Each competency of the model elicits different coaching strategies and aligns directly to empowering and developing employee emotional intelligence and design mindset. Over the next three months, we will share insights to each of the four major competency areas (SALC™) to assist in empowering your employees to develop in the necessary areas!

 

Implementing Strategic Agility

The “S” of SALC™ stands for “Strategic Agility.” This looks like demonstrating that each employee is resilient, engaged and motivating. It means investing in emotional intelligence capacities in order that individuals may create rapport, trust and value-based team leadership.

 

  1. BASELINE: To start, create a baseline using an Authentic SWOT to see the current status of your organization. It is a great way to determine the baseline for strengths, trust, skills and foresight. It will also allow you to identify the language patterns of your team. Once you have the Authentic SWOT, you determine one area that will be the focus for improvement.

  2. LANGUAGE: Build new language frames. You can do this by looking for ways to add value to each meeting, weekly goal setting and projects. As a team, commit to reducing stress by removing “water cooler talk” and words that trigger stress.  

  3. SHIFT: Design a shift by creating and implementing a monthly resiliency theme. A great way to start the transformation is to choose a “shift read.” This can be done by choosing a personal development book, require everyone to read a chapter and have one person lead a 20-minute reflective insights dialogue. As a coach, I utilize a library of choice books customized for the client. A great read for any company is The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor and Small Giants by Bo Burlingham.

  4. THINKING: Design adaptive thinking. Strategic agility means that team members have the ability to do environmental scans, watch for blind spots and move with fluidity instead of stalling. Thus, from the Authentic SWOT, make sure the team creates a visual or wordle of the ten to fifteen values and strengths they would like to stand on. This becomes the foundation for them to build the courage they need to face challenges, lean into the uncomfortable and choose to change what needs to change.
